Stage 1

The Lord Jesus said no one knew the date, time or hour of his return to this earth but God the Father.( Mat. 24:36 ) He did say that we could discern the signs of the times and realize that the time was near. ( Luke 21:24-28 ) Following are some of the signs that Christians worldwide, are aware of.

MATTHEW 24:32-33 Now learn a parable of the fig tree: When its branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near;
Vs.33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

Stage 1 will be composed of the following

A. Signs preceding the return of Christ
B. The church meets King Jesus in the air
C. Tribulation here on earth

A. Sings preceding the return of Jesus Christ

1.   Israel Regathered

Beginning with the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D.70 by the Roman empire, until   Hitler’s reign of terror 1945, the nation of Israel ceased to be, and the Jewish people were dispersed through out the world. In 1948 the Jewish people from all parts the world returned to their homeland and the nation of Israel was reborn, in fulfillment of Gods prophetic word.

DEUTERONOMY 30:3,4   That then the Lord thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the Lord thy God hath scattered thee.
Vs.4   If any of thine be driven out unto the outmosts parts of heaven, from thence will the Lord thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee.

ISAIAH 11:11,12   And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from the islands of the sea.
Vs.12   And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the out cast of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

AMOS 9:14,15   And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; and shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them.
Vs.15   And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the Lord thy God.

This return of the Jewish people to their homeland is a foreshadow of a greater return, that will take place, when the Lord Jesus Christ returns to this earth.

2.   Jerusalem becomes the capital

LUKE 21:24   And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations; and Jerusalem shall be trodden down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

Since 70 AD. the city of Jerusalem has passed from one power to another; from the Roman conquerors, to the Persian, to the crusaders, to the Turks, to the British and finally in 1967 in the 6 day war, the Jews took control of Jerusalem for the first time in many centuries. Many bible scholars believe that the Anti-Christ will form some sort of peace pact with Israel, at the start of the Tribulation Period and will have something to do with the construction of a new temple, for worship. Some believe that the Jews will accept this man as the long awaited Messiah, until midway through the Tribulation period, at which time he will set up an image of himself in the Holy of Holies, proclaim that he is God and demand that he and his image be worshipped. The Jews will reject him and in doing so, will bring severe persecution from him. All this is to take place in Jerusalem, the capital of Israel. For these things to take place, Israel had to become a nation again and Jerusalem had to come back under the control of the Jewish nation.

* Note - For many Christians, these two signs have taken place in our lifetime, as well as
  many others: we are truly living in the last hour.

MATTHEW 24:15   When ye, therefore shall see the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place... ( Daniel 12:11 )

MARK 13:14   But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation , spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not ( let him that readeth understand ), then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains.

2 THESSALONIANS 2:3-4   Let no man deceive you by any means; for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition,
Vs.4   Who opposeth and exhalteth himself above all that is worshipped, so that he, as God, sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

3.   Knowledge is Increased

In the last 100 years man has went from the horse and buggy, to the moon. In the last 50 years, their has been an explosion of new technology in every field of expertise. Great strides in communications and travel has brought the whole world together, into one large community. The age of the personal computer, has given the individual, access to the world. The problem with the technology that has made our lives easier, is that; sinful unregenerate man, will use it to destroy himself, such as mass weapons of destruction. The new advances that has brought healing in the medical field, has brought also greed and profiteering, and many times the poor go without.

DANIEL 12:4   But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

4.   Signs in Man

One only has to turn on the TV to find scripture being fulfilled, as we are bombarded by the psychic networks, situation comedy shows that mock the Christian faith and our blessed Lord, that promote homosexuality, abortion, sexual permissiveness, and applauds anyone who supports their ungodliness. Our public schools have become killing fields,
infested with drugs and disrespect for anyone in authority. What is happening?

  a. Scoffers

      2 PETER 3:2-3   Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers,
      walking after their own lusts,
      Vs.3   And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell
      asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.

  b. Homosexuality

      ROMANS 1:26-28, 32...for even their women did exchange the natural use for that
      which is against nature;
      Vs.27   And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in
      their lust one toward another, men with men working that which is unseemly, and
      receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was fitting.
      Vs.28   And even as they did not retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over
      to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are seemly,
      Vs.32   Who, knowing the judgment of God, that they who commit such things are
      worthy of death, not only do the same but have pleasure in them that do them.

* Homosexuality has been around since the dawn of time but never before in all of history
has it been flaunted and embraced, with such enthusiasm by society. It has been dressed
up in the clothing of an alternate lifestyle and passed off to society as normal. But God
says that it is an abomination and will reap its reward.( Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1:26-32)

  c.   Lovers of Self

      2 TIMOTHY 3:1-5   This know, also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
      Vs.2   For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud,
      blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
      Vs.3   Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce,
      despisers of those that are good,
      Vs.4   Traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God,
      Vs.5   Having a form of godliness, but denying the power of it; from such turn away.

For the purpose of selfish ambition, careers and a lack of personal responsibility, expecting mothers abort their unborn children, depriving them of a chance at life. Driven by lust, and a few disgusting moments of personal satisfaction, a man will rape and then murder a child. The sordid list goes on and on. When self reigns, what self wants, self gets, no matter how vile and disgusting it may be and regardless of the pain it may cause others. Without God, man is lost in a downward spiral.

  d. Iniquity Abounding

      MATTHEW 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall grow
      cold.

  e.   Cults and the Occult

      MATTHEW 24:4-5   And Jesus answered and said unto them. Take heed that no
      man deceive you.
      Vs.5   For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

      MATTHEW 24:11,24   And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
      Vs.24   For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great
      signs and wonders, insomuch that, if it were possible, they should deceive the very
      elect.

Have you noticed the renewed interest in occultic practices? Almost in every city you can find advertisements for palm and tarot card readings, physic predictions etc. Even our news papers carry the daily horoscopes.

  f.   As the days of Noah

      LUKE 17:26-27   And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of
      the son of Man.
      Vs.27   They did eat, and they drank, they married wives, they were given in
      marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and
      destroyed them all.

   g.   Warfare

      MARK 13:7-8   And when ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars, be ye not
      troubled; for such things must needs be, but the end shall not be yet.
      Vs.8   For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.

* Note: The signs that are given preceding the return of Christ for the church, will have their greatest fulfillment during the 7 yr. tribulation period.

5.   Signs in Nature

MARK 13:8   For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be earthquakes in various places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.

LUKE 21:25   And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring.

( Could landing on the moon be a sign? )

Most of us are aware of the global problems that this earth has experience in recent years; climate changes, a global warming, earthquakes, and devastating floods are a but a few of the global tragedies that are taking place.

6.   Signs in Nations

MATTHEW 24:7   For Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom...

* Not only have we seen two world wars but also the the fall of the Soviet Union.

7.   Signs in the Church

a.   Apostasy

      2 THESSALONIANS 2:3   Let no man deceive you by any means, for that day shall
      not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed.

      1 TIMOTHY 4:1   Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the later times some shall
      depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils.

      2 TIMOTHY 4:3-4   For the time will come when they will not endure sound
      doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having
      itching ears;Vs.4 And shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned
      unto fables.

Apostasy means to fall away, to fall away: one must fall away from something or someone. There are many who have fallen away from the foundational truths that Christians have embraced and held dear to, for centuries. Many have departed from faith in Jesus Christ and have accepted a false gospel.

b.   The Gospel preached worldwide

      MATTHEW 24:14   And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the
      world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Mat 24:44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of man cometh.

B. The Church meets King Jesus in the air

Note - The church is not a certain denomination or group but is all believers that have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. It is composed of all true Christians world wide.

When Christ returns, he will bring with him, the souls of Christians who have died, at which time their bodies will be resurrected, glorified and be rejoined with their spirit and soul. ( 1 Thessalonians 4:14 ) When a Christian dies, the body is buried, to await the resurrection, but the born again spirit goes to be with the Lord. ( 2 Corinthians 5:1-8, Philippians 1:21-23 ).

1. Translation of the church

1 THESSALONIANS 4:16-17   For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the arch-angel, and the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Vs.17   Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

1 CORINTHIANS 15:51-52   Behold, I shew you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
Vs.52   In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

2.   The Judgment Seat of Christ

The Judgment Seat of Christ will take place, when the Church is caught up to meet him in the air at His second coming. This judgment is upon the works and not the sins of the believer. The results of this judgment will be reward or loss of reward, but the believer shall be saved.

2 CORINTHIANS 5:10   For we must all appear before the Judgment Seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

ROMANS 14:10-12   But why dost thou judge thy brother? Or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? For we must all stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ. As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

1 CORINTHIANS 3:13-15   Every mans work shall be manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every mans work of what sort it is. If any mans work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any mans work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved.

C. Tribulation on earth

The Great Tribulation period here on earth will commence when the church is translated to meet the Lord in the air ( rapture ). In fulfillment of Old Testament prophesy a man will rise to power as leader of a federation of ten nations, This man will be controlled and influenced by Satan himself. For the first three and a half years of the seven year tribulation, the antichrist will seem to have all the solutions for the middle east problems; he will make a peace pact with Israel, and have a new temple built. This man will be supported by the false prophet who will rise to power over the world religions. The bible says that they will cause people to receive the mark (666) of the beast ( the antichrist ) and with out his mark, no one can buy or sale. The antichrist will declare that he is God, will have an image of himself set up in the temple, and demand worship, At this point Israel will reject him and that will begin a severe persecution of the Jews.

Some of the events of the Tribulation Period

1. Rise of the Anti-Christ 1st. beast of Rev.13

The Anti-Christ will be a man who will rise to power over a ten league federation of nations.

REVELATION 13:1-10 Vs.1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a great beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

DANIEL 7:8   ..called the little horn
DANIEL 9:26..called the prince that shall come
2 THESSALONIANS 2:3..called the man of sin
REVELATION 13:1..called the beast out of the sea

2. Rise of the False Prophet 2nd. beast of Rev.13

The false prophet will rise to power as head over the false religious system that is left upon the earth, after Jesus Christ removes the church. As the 2nd. beast of Rev. ch. 13
he will declare that the antichrist is the Messiah, will demand that people worship him and cause people to receive his mark in their foreheads or right hand.

REVELATION 13:11-    and I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
Vs.12 and he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and then which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
Vs.13 and he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men.
Vs.14-18

3. The sealing of 144,000 Jews

Twelve thousand Jews from the 12 tribes of Israel will be set apart for God’s Service during the tribulation period. These servants of God, will have God’s seal in their foreheads; Many bible scholars believe that these 144,000 will preach the gospel message world wide.

REVELATION 7:3-8   Vs.3 Saying, “Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of God in their foreheads.

REVELATION 14:1-5 Vs. 1 And I looked and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.

4. The Wrath of God Poured Out

Although God is totally holy and sin is abhorring to him, as well as a lost humanity; God because of his great love for his creation ( humanity ) and not willing that any of us perish; gave his only begotten Son ( Jesus Christ ) that whoever believes in Jesus, could have eternal life and a relationship with God. The wrath of God will be poured out during the tribulation period upon this earth because of man’s unrepentant heart and rejection of God’ gift. Within the opening of the 7 seals, the 7 trumpets and the 7 vials, God’s wrath is revealed.

  A.   The 7 seals

  REVELATION 6:1-17 The opening of the first 6 seals, which contain the following
                                        elements.

  Seal 1

  Rev.6:2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat upon him had a bow; and
  a crown was given to him: and he went forth conquering and to conquer.

  * Opinions as to who this person is varies, some believe that this is the false prophet or
     the antichrist.

Seal 2

  Rev.6:3-4 And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say,
  come and see.
  Vs.4   And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that
  sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there
  was given to him a great sword.

* Who ever this person is, world war will be the results of his influence.

Seal 3

  Rev.6:5-6   And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come
  and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of
  balances in his hand.
  Vs.6   And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for
  a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

* The opening of this seal brings about a world wide economic crises

Seal 4

  Rev.6:7-8   And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the the fourth
  beast say, come and see.
  Vs.8   And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat upon him was death,
  and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the
  earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the
  earth.

* Global starvation, war and death will follow the opening of the fourth seal.

  Seal 5

  Rev.6:9-11   And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of
  them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held.
  (see Vs 10,11

  * As a result of the ministry of the 144,000 Jews, many will turn to Jesus Christ; who in
     turn will be persecuted for their faith and refusal to bow to the antichrist and receive
     his mark. ( Rev.13:5-8 )

  Seal 6

  Rev.6:12-17   And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a
  great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became
  as blood.
  Vs.13   And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her
  untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
  Vs.14   And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every
  mountain and island were moved out of their places.
  Vs.15   And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief
  captains, and the mighty men, and every bond man, and every free man, hid themselves
  in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
  Vs.16. And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of
  him that siteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the lamb:
  Vs.17   For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

  * What ever takes place with the opening of this seal, it effects the sun, moon and
     earth to the point, that people hide in fear.

  Seal 7

  Their is a lull in judgment between the 6th and 7th seal as God gives people time to
  repent. The opening of the 7th seal ( Rev.8:1-2 ) is actually the releasing of the 7
  trumpet judgments.

  B. The 7 Trumpet Judgments

Trumpet 1

  Rev. 8:6-7   And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to
  sound.
  Vs.7   The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood,
  and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green
  grass was burnt up.

  * Opinions vary as to the sounding of this trumpet; many believe that it could be the
     results of a nuclear war that takes place.

  Trumpet 2

  Rev. 8:8-9   And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning
  with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;
  Vs.9   And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and
  the third part of the ships were destroyed.

  * Some believe this speaks of natural calamities, nuclear war, or the supernatural hand
     of God. In the Old Testament God rained down plagues upon Egypt.

  Trumpet 3

  Rev. 8:10-11   And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven,
  burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the
  fountains of the waters.
  Vs.11   And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters
  became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.

  * This could be an of very large meteorite that strikes the earth.

  Trumpet 4

  Rev. 8:12   And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and
  the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them
  was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.
  ( read Vs 13 )

  * The results of a large meteorite striking the earth would produce a global cloud of
     dust and debris in the upper atmosphere.

  Trumpet 5

  Rev.9:1-11   1-3 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the
  earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.
  Vs.2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the
  smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke
  of the pit.
  Vs.3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth and unto them was given
  power, as scorpions of the earth have power.

  * Verses 1-11 Some think this may apply to demonic spirits set loose, and maybe
     biological warfare.

  Trumpet 6

  Rev.9:13 -11:14 (Please read from the Bible)

  The sounding of the sixth trumpet reveals a vast army of 200,000,000 by which a third
  of men are killed.( Some bible scholars Believe that this is an army is from China )
  Even after all the war, death and destruction, verse 20-21 says that mankind still will
  not repent.

Trumpet 7

  Rev.11:15-16:20    11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices
  in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord,
  and of his Christ; and he shall reign forever and ever.

* The sounding of this last trumpet brings a pause; at which time Christ proclaims his
    right to rule as King of king and Lord of lords. During this pause other events transpire
    before the seven bowl ( vial ) judgments are unleased.

  C. The 7 vial ( bowl ) Judgments

Vial 1

  Rev.16:1-2   And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go
  your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.
  Vs.2 And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a
  noiseome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon
  them which worshipped his image.

* The outpouring of this vial is upon all that received the mark of the beast ( 666 ) and
   worship his image. The Anti-christ has an image of himself put in the new temple, that
   is built for the Jews and demands that it is worshipped. All that receive the mark,
   doom their souls to eternal Hell.

  Vial 2

  Rev. 16:3   And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as
  the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.

* The oceans are affected by the second vial.

Vial 3

  Rev.16:4   And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of
  waters; and they became blood.

* The third vial affects the all the fresh water.

  Vial 4

  Rev.16:8-9   And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was
  given unto him to scorch men with fire.
  Vs.9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which
  hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

* This vial judgment causes the sun’s rays to intensify ( some believe, that something
    happens to the ozone layer.) Notice the attitude of mankind, they blaspheme God
    instead of repenting.

Vial 5

  Rev. 16:10-11   And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and
  his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,
  Vs.11 And they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores,
  and repented not of their deeds.

* This vial judgment is upon the Anti-christ and his rule.

  Vial 6

  Rev. 16:12-16   vs.12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river
  Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east
  might be prepared.

* With the river Euphrates dried up, the huge 2000,00,000 army will be able to cross.
    This army ( many believe from China ) will do battle with the army from the west and
    also the armies of the Anti-christ. These armies are gathered to a place called
    Armageddon, to do battle. At this point Jesus Christ returns and they all join forces to
    attack him and in doing so are destroyed.

Vial 7

  Rev.16:17-21   And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a
  great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.
  Vs.18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightenings; and there was a great
  earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake,
  and so great.
  Vs.19-21...   ( Islands and mountains are not found ( probably submerged by oceans )
  Great hail fall out of heaven ( the sky )

* This earthquake is so huge that it affects the total earth.

* Note - Some Bible scholars estimate that 4 billion people die in the 7 year tribulation
    period.

  1 Thessalonians 1:10   And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from
  the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

* The church ( born again Christians ) will not experience this period of time of God’s
     wrath. The church is translated to meet the Lord in the air, at the start of all this.

5. The Two Witnesses

Revelation 11:3-12   Vs.3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

* The ministry of these two men, will be the first three and a half years of the seven yr.
  tribulation. Many believe that they are Elijah and Enoch, because God took them to
  heaven before they died a physical death.

* To validate the prophesies of these two men God grants miraculous signs by their hands
  Vs.5-6. They are eventually killed, but God raises them from the dead after three days.

18:1-24   The great city is destroyed ( some believe this to be a rich nation )
