Theme:
Christ the King
The writer of
Matthew was Levi, also called Matthew. Before his call to follow Jesus, he
was a Publican ( a Jew who collected taxes for the Roman government ) as a
tax collector he was despised by his countrymen.
The Gospel of
Matthew presents Jesus Christ as the King and traces his genealogy to king
David and at times refers to Christ as the son of David. Matthew also, can
be viewed as the Gospel of the kingdom; the expressions, the kingdom of
God and the kingdom of heaven can be found often.
