15. Holy Spirit Ability

A. Example of Jesus

Luke 4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

Luke 4:18 -19 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

Vs.19. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Matthew 4:23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

 

B. Works of Jesus - Church will do

John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

Mark 16:17-18 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18. They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

 

C. Early Church Examples

Acts 3:6-8 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

Vs.7. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ancle bones received strength.

Vs.8. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.

Acts 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

Acts 6:8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

Acts 8:5-8 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them.

Vs.6. And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.

Vs.7. For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.

Vs.8. And there was great joy in that city.

Acts 9:35-34 And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy.

Vs.34. And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately.

Acts 9:40 But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

Acts 12:7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

Acts 13:11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.

Acts 14:9-10 The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,

Vs.10. Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

Acts 16:18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

* The Holy Spirit enables us to do the works of Jesus.

 16. A Christian's body

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

Vs.20 For ye are bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

2 Corinthians 6:16 What agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Romans 6:11-12 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Vs.12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

Vs.13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

1 Corinthians 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:

Vs.4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor.

A. Well Chosen

Matthew 5:37 Let your communication be yea yea, nay nay, for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

Proverbs 17:27 He that has knowledge, spareth his words and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.

Titus 2:8 .. Sound speech that cannot be condemned that he that is the contrary part may be ashamed having no evil thing to say of you.

James 3:2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man and able also to bridle the whole body.

Proverbs 10:19 In the multitude of words there lacks not sin

B. A Time to Keep Silent

Proverbs 23:9 Speak not in the ears of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

Proverbs 29:11 A fool utters all his mind, but a wise man keepeth it till afterwards.

Ecclesiastics 3:7 A time to rend, and a time to sew, a time to keep silent and a time to speak.

Proverbs 18:13 He that answers a matter before he hears it, it is a folly and a shame unto him.

C. Don’t Speak Evil

Ephesians 4:31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and evil speaking be put away from you with all malice.

Titus 3:2 To speak evil of no man, to be not brawlers but gentle, showing all meekness to all men.

D. Restrain Our Words

Proverbs 21:23 Whoso keeps his mouth and his tongue, keeps his soul from troubles.

E. Speak Life With Your Words

Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turns away wrath but grievous words stir up anger.

Proverbs 15:28 the heart of the righteous studies to answer..

Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb; sweet to the soul and health to the bones.

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue and they that love it, shall eat the fruit thereof.

Proverbs 25:11 A word fitly spoken, is like apples of gold in settings of silver.

18. Giving

Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Proverbs 22:9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

Proverbs 28:27 He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hides his eyes shall have many a curse.

Matthew 6:3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth.

2. Tithing

Proverbs 3:9-10 Honor the Lord with thy substance and with the first fruits of all thy increase.

Vs.10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithed into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

3. Beware of Covetousness

Luke 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

1 Timothy 6:10 FOR THE LOVE OF MONEY is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
