What did Jesus say about it?

MARK 10:6-9   But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
Vs.7   For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;
Vs.8  And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.
Vs.9  What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

Matthew 5:32 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery. (NIV)

Living Together

Hebrews 13:4   Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

John 4:16-18  Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.
17.  The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:
18.  For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

* This woman was living with a man and Jesus said he wasn’t her husband, they were not
  legally married.

1 Corinthians 7:2  Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

* Fornication is having sex outside of the Holy bond of matrimony.
The bed is undefiled in the bond of marriage.
The bed is defiled if a couple are not married.

Romans 12:1  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service.

Romans 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

* Christians are not to adopt the ways of the world.

* Christians are to be transformed by the renewing of their minds by the word of God.

* Jesus said, “a man does not live by bread alone but by every word of God.” (Matt.4:4)

John 2:1  And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:

Jesus attended this marriage.

What constituted this marriage?

This couple were publicly united in the bond of marriage.

In other words they got married, they did not choose to live together.

Living together does not biblically constitute a marriage. Regardless of what the popular trends of this present world are; as Christians we must apply the standard of God’s Word to our lives.

Our Lord Jesus said, John 14:15  “ if you love Me, keep my commandments.”
